Women's Center at Spivey Station awarded Susan G. Komen for the Cure - Atlanta Affiliate grant

Riverdale, Ga. (April 15, 2011) - The Women's Center at Spivey Station recently was awarded a $144,140 grant from Susan G. Komen for the Cure - Atlanta Affiliate to fund the Caring Compressions program, which provides access for breast cancer screenings and diagnostic services to low income, uninsured and underinsured women in areas near Rockdale and Henry counties.

Over the next year, the Caring Compressions program will provide 200 screenings and 145 diagnostic mammograms in addition to 15 ultrasound biopsies, 90 ultrasounds and seven stereotactic biopsies to those who might not have received these services without the aid of the grant.

Of these areas this grant services, Rockdale and Henry counties are listed in the top five for counties with the highest incidence rates of late-stage diagnoses, according to the Komen Atlanta Community Profile Report (2009). Within a 10-county metro Atlanta service area, Rockdale ranks in the top five for the number of unisured women ages 18-64.

In continuing their commitment to breast health, the SRMC Foundation will unveil a new MRI purchased through community donation with the necessary breast apparatus to allow breast MRI and MRI biopsies next month at Spivey Station.
