Southern Regional Medical Center, originally dedicated as Clayton General Hospital, was established in 1971 to provide high quality medical care to the residents of Clayton County and surrounding communities. Southern Regional is a not-for-profit, community based healthcare provider and began growing into a health system in the early 1990s.
Southern Regional Health System is now a leading provider of technologically advanced, quality healthcare to the entire south metro Atlanta region. The health system includes Southern Regional Medical Center, a 331-bed, full-service hospital in Riverdale, Ga. The medical center offers comprehensive tests and treatments for cardiovascular disease, and is designated as an Accredited Chest Pain Center and certified as a Primary Stroke Center. Southern Regional's state-of-the-art surgery department is equipped to perform minimally invasive procedures including robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery. Southern Regional is also home to the Georgia Orthopedic Institute and The Women's Life Center for expectant mothers, which contains the area's top NICU.
A second campus at Spivey Station in Jonesboro, Ga. offers women's services, complete lab and imaging services, and an outpatient surgery center. This location offers fully integrated health services to a broader market between Atlanta and Macon.
