Prime Healthcare Foundation’s full transition team was on site last
week at Southern Regional Medical Center (SRMC) to begin the process of
assisting Southern Regional in its turnaround.
While the transition team is just getting started, Prime Healthcare’s
management took a positive step in making the hospital more accessible
to the community by eliminating the requirement for visitors and patients
to pay for parking.
“Starting immediately, all patient and visitor parking at Southern
Regional will be free of charge,” noted Kim Ryan, President and
CEO for Southern Regional Health System.
“Prime is acting with urgency, and right now we’re focused
on supporting the needs of Southern Regional because we intend to purchase
the hospital and we want to make it a successful health care provider
for the community and the Southern Crescent,” said Jim Summersett,
Division II CEO for Prime Healthcare.
During its visit, Prime Healthcare Foundation’s transition team also
provided support and assistance to staff at Southern Regional in areas
such as financing, technology and patient care, among others.
Prime Healthcare Foundation, an award-winning non-profit hospital system,
operating 7 hospitals in two states, has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI)
to purchase most of Southern Regional’s assets, and plans to operate
the hospital after the proposed sale. The terms of the proposed sale also
require Prime to make substantial capital improvements to the hospital,
and to continue the hospital’s commitment to indigent care.
