The Diagnostic Imaging Department provides a variety of services using the latest state-of-the-art equipment. Within Diagnostic Imaging there are divided into seven different departments:

Radiology (X-ray)
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

We offer state of the art equipment to include digital fluoroscopy and multiple Computed Radiography (CR) units.  In the near future, we will be proud to offer PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System), the latest revolution in radiography.  This is the largest department within Diagnostic Imaging. The highly qualified radiology staff performs approximately 65,000 exams on inpatients, outpatients, and Emergency Department patients each year. This year alone we have updated several pieces of equipment to keep up with advancements in technology. We now offer CR (Computed Radiography) for our critical care patients and we added a digital room (Swissray) to streamline our outpatients and emergency room patients.  Our film file room now has the capability to make better quality copies for our patients with our new Vidar System.

The full-service MRI department performs approximately 5,000 patient exams each year. For the convenience of our patients the MRI department offers early morning and evening appointments. We also offer patients a new level of comfort for this procedure with our Short Bore Magnet, which provides for a technological advanced exam with decreased apprehension.

The nuclear medicine department is capable of performing procedures in the areas of nuclear medicine, nuclear cardiology and various oncological procedures.  Some of our technology allows the patient to view a movie during our time consuming procedures making the length of the procedure more tolerable.  Our operating hours are from 6:30am until 4:00pm Monday – Friday. Southern Regional offers PET(Positron Emission Tomography) /CT scans for our patients.  The mobile PET/CT is on site at Southern Regional Medical Center every Tuesday and offers appointments from 8:00am until 5:45pm for the convenience of our patients.

The highly qualified staff of the Diagnostic Ultrasound department perform approximately 1,700 procedures per month to inpatients, outpatients, and Emergency Department patients. Some common procedures performed are abdominal, OB/GYN, breast, thyroid, and testicular ultrasounds, biopsy procedures, and pediatric exams such as baby spines, pyloric studies, and neonatal sonograms.  We provide early morning, evening, and weekend appointments for our patients' added convenience.

CT is a full service department that offers interventional procedures along with routine exams.  The department currently has two scanners, which perform about 18,000 procedures annually.  The department schedules outpatient appointments seven days a week for added patient convenience.

This department performs interventional procedures such as arteriograms and offers central access service. It is staffed by top technologists and radiologists who performed approximately 3,000 interventional procedures each year.

Southern Regional Health System's Mammography Department utilizes some of the latest technology with their CAD (Computer Aided Diagnosis) system.

The health concerns of women last a lifetime.  To ensure that you get the preventive and diagnostic care you need, we’ve developed a special Women’s Diagnostic Services area on the Terrace Level of the Women’s Life Center.  In one convenient location we’ve combined mammography (both screening and diagnostic), bone densitometry and stereotactic breast biopsy.  With convenient parking and a streamlined admissions process the Women’s Diagnostic Services area will meet your healthcare needs quickly, accurately and professionally.
