Three psycho-educational groups are offered at RiverWoods. An
Adult Anger Management Group, an
Adolescent Anger Management Group, and a
Parenting Group are available to the public every
Wednesday evening.
Adult Anger Management
Group
The Adult Anger Management Group at RiverWoods is a 12-week outpatient
program that teaches adults how to recognize constructive versus
destructive methods of dealing with anger. The program combines
lecture material with hands-on learning exercises so that participants
can practice new skills.
Written feedback and progress reports are available throughout the
course of the program, and a certificate is given to each participant
who completes the entire 12-week series.
Topics covered include:
- exploration of the purpose of anger
- identification of unhealthy anger responses
- developing awareness of different types of violence and the cycle
of violence
- how to use appropriate behavioral, cognitive and verbal anger
management skills
- identification of healthy versus unhealthy relationship dynamics
- how drugs and alcohol affect anger responses
- how to talk to spouses, employers, children and others when angry
without damaging relationships
- how to develop a personalized anger plan
Time: Wednesdays, 8 pm to 9 pm
Location: RiverWoods
Fee: $25.00 per session ($300.00 for the entire series)

Adolescent Anger
Management Group
The Adolescent Anger Management Group at RiverWoods is a six-week
outpatient program that teaches teens to recognize constructive
versus destructive methods of dealing with anger. The program combines
lecture material and hands-on learning exercises so that participants
can practice new skills.
Written feedback and progress reports are available throughout the
course of the group, and a certificate is given to each participant
who completes the entire six-week series.

- exploration of the purpose of anger
- identification of unhealthy anger responses
- recognition of the natural consequences when anger
gets out of control
- how to use appropriate behavioral, cognitive and
verbal anger management skills
- how to talk with parents, teachers and peers without
becoming aggressive and damaging relationships
- how drugs and alcohol affect anger responses
- how to develop a personalized anger management plan
Time: Wednesdays, 6 pm to 7 pm
Location: RiverWoods
Fee: $25.00 per session ($150.00 for the entire series)

Parenting Group
The Parenting Education Group at RiverWoods is a 12-week program that
teaches parents of school-aged children how to respond appropriately
to their child. The program emphasizes appropriate limit-setting and
communication strategies and involves discussion groups and hands-on
learning exercises so that participants can practice new skills.
Written feedback and progress reports are available throughout the
course of the program, and a certificate is given to each participant
who completes the entire 12-week series.
Topics covered include:
- understanding yourself and your child
- guilt
- managing your anger
- examining your beliefs and your feelings
- emotional challenges
- parenting without a partner
- encouraging your child and yourself
- issues related to step-families
- giving and receiving criticism
- listening and talking to your child
- how to ignore misbehavior
- discipline that makes sense
Time: Wednesdays, 7 pm to 8 pm
