Women's Breast Health at Southern Regional
Women's Life Center Offers Comprehensive Breast Care
Breast cancer is the most commonly-diagnosed cancer in women in the United States.
Early detection of breast cancer can save lives and increase the success
of treatment. Southern Regional is dedicated to providing state-of-the-art
screening tools and treatments for breast cancer.
Mammograms and clinical breast exams are the best screening tools. Yearly mammograms
should start at age 40 for most women, but women with a family history
of breast cancer should talk to their doctors about being screened at
a younger age.
We offer comprehensive Breast Service at two of our state-of-the-art locations at
Southern Regional Medical Center and at
Breast Care Services
Southern Regional Health System is committed to providing the best in screening,
diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Here are some of our services.
CAD Mammography (Computer-Aided Detection): This technology detects any subtle changes that might be missed with conventional
Stereotactic Breast Biopsy: This is a precise 3-D image that locates the tumor, while a needle is
used to remove a small tissue or fluid sample.
Breast MRI: This non-invasive imaging technique diagnoses suspicious breast masses
not clearly seen on a mammogram or an ultrasound.
Sentinel Lymph Node Mapping & Biopsy: Usually performed during breast cancer surgery, this procedure removes
one or two lymph nodes to be examined by a pathologist.
Breast Brachytherapy: This radiation therapy technique follows breast-conserving surgery and
can reduce breast radiation therapy from six weeks to less than two weeks.
