Are You A Candidate for Weight Loss Surgery?

Learn About Surgery at Southern Regional's Bariatric Center

Only you and your doctor can decide whether bariatric surgery is right for you. This is a life-changing decision requireing serious consideration and a thorough medical evaluation.

While the focus on obesity and weight loss seems to be all around us, there are many obesity-related issues you may not know about. There are hidden costs - physical, emotional, and financial. There are different solutions for you to consider. And, if you have a loved one who may be suffering from obesity, you need to know how to help.

But if you are thinking about this option, here are some basic guidelines to help determine whether surgery is an option for you. It is important to know your BMI (body mass index). Let us help you determine your BMI.*

  • You must have a BMI of 35 or greater.
  • If your BMI is between 35 and 40, you must also have one to two co-morbid conditions, such as diabetes and hypertension (high blood pressure).
  • If your BMI is greater than 40, you do not need to have any co-morbid conditions.
