The minute you enter our facility, you'll notice some real differences.
For one thing, The Rehabilitation Center is one of the newest rehabilitation facilities in metro
Atlanta so everything is fresh and up to date. Our unit is a 20-bed inpatient rehabilitation center located on the third
floor of Southern Regional Medical Center. As a patient in this setting, you
will participate in a rehabilitation program that is different from the care you
received in the rest of the hospital. It is a comprehensive inpatient
rehabilitation program for people who have suffered a loss of ability to
function as a result of accident, injury, illness, or surgery. Some of these
losses may result in difficulty dressing, bathing, eating, walking, swallowing,
communicating, speaking, and thinking. Our patients have a variety of diagnoses
including stroke, multiple trauma, complicated joint replacements, arthritis in
multiple joints, fracture of the hip, amputation, or other neurological
disorders. The goal and focus of the rehabilitation program is for you to return
home or to the community as independent as possible.
The Rehabilitation Center is unlike other parts of the hospital wherein
hospital staff does most of the tasks for you. In The Rehabilitation Center,
patients have to work hard, and the patients, along with their
families/caregivers, are actually part of the team. The best possible outcomes
from the program are achieved as a result of everyone’s efforts, as a team. You
will receive care in a 24-hour therapeutic environment which includes active
participation in therapy usually for three hours per day, at least five days per
week, depending on your individual needs. The program may also include training
and education for the families/caregivers, community outings, and therapeutic
leaves.
