Emergency Services at Southern Regional
Southern Regional Medical Center's Emergency Department (ED) provides patients with a high level of care when they need it the most. The ED treats nearly 80,000 patients a year, making it one of the busiest in the State of Georgia.
The Emergency Department is designed to handle almost every type of emergent and critical care situation. Southern Regional's Emergency Department is equipped with 39 acute beds, all with state-of-the-art bedside monitoring equipment. The ED treats patients dealing with serious injuries, life-threatening illnesses, and multiple system organ failures.
The Emergency Department personnel works closely with all service areas of the hospital, including the lab, radiology, respiratory therapists, pharmacist, in patient units and other ancillary departments to provide top quality emergency care. In addition, Southern Regional's ED works closely with Atlanta area Emergency Response Units, Police Departments, and Fire Departments to ensure protocols and standards are met.
The department's dedicated physicians are board certified and have been trained in some of the busiest and best programs in the country, including those in Los Angeles, Chicago, and New Orleans. The department has an exceptional staff of nurses, technicians, unit secretaries, and patient representatives. Our nurses are trained in ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), and many have other certifications, such as TNCC (Trauma Nurse Care Courses), PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support), and NALS (Neonatal Advanced Life Support).
Since Southern Regional is an Accredited Chest Pain Center and certified as a Primary Stroke Center, our heart and vascular team as well as stroke team are always available to treat life threatening illnesses.
