Vascular Screening

Many vascular diseases can produce stroke, which is the third leading cause of death in the United States. An estimated 20 to 30 million Americans are at risk for various vascular diseases, including stroke, peripheral arterial disease (PAD), carotid artery disease and aortic aneurysms. And according to the AVA, vascular disease outside the heart causes almost as much death and disability as heart disease, and more than any cancer.
Procedure Information
Appropriate for adults of all ages, vascular screening is particularly relevant to:
- Smokers
- People with high blood pressure
- Those with a family history of vascular disease or stroke
People who are considered at low risk generally won't benefit from this test. Likewise, individuals who are already being treated for heart disease would most likely find the test unnecessary.
Vascular screening is most helpful for those at intermediate risk. According to the American Heart Association, almost half of all heart-related deaths occur in people with no previous history of heart disease symptoms. Vascular screening can help identify those people who need treatment and act as a catalyst for adopting a healthier lifestyle.
The $99 vascular screening series of non-invasive tests consist of:
