Where to Report:
Enter the hospital at the Outpatient Entrance. Procede to the laboratory located on the first floor to register.

What to Bring:
- Physician Order
- Completed AFP/Triple Test Questionnaire
- Your insurance / Medicaid / Medicare card
- Driver's License / Photo Identification
- Please check with your insurance carrier for any authorization requirements.


Patient Instructions:
- For the test results to be interpreted correctly it is necessary for you and your doctor to complete an AFP/Triple Test Questionnaire form attached. All the information requested on the form is vital to the correct reporting of the test and we appreciate your cooperation in answering all questions found on the form. Your physician's office staff will either fill out the form for you or assist you in completing the form. Please be sure to bring this form with you when you come to have your specimen collected. Additional copies of the form may be requested by calling the laboratory at (770) 991-8155.
- You do not have to be fasting for this test and it is not necessary to schedule this test. It is important that the test be run between 14-21 weeks gestation, so please arrange to have the specimen collected as soon as possible after your doctor has ordered the test.

Procedure Information:
This is a blood test used to rule out fetal anomalies including Neural Tube Defects and Down's syndrome. In addition to these two defects, there are many other conditions associated with abnormal AFP results. Many, but by no means, all serious birth defects can be detected through maternal serum screening tests. This test is offered to patients and their physicians to assist them in making informed decisions related to pregnancy.
