Where to Report:
Please enter at the Outpatient Entrance and go to Outpatient Registration 45 minutes prior to your scheduled procedure. You will be directed to the Radiology Department.
What to Bring:
- Physician Order
- Any forms from your physician relating to this visit
- Your insurance / Medicaid / Medicare card
- Driver's License / Photo Identification
- All of your medications OR a listing of all medications along with the dose, how often you take it, and the last time you took it
- A list of all of your allergies
- Please check with your insurance carrier for any authorization requirements.
- Any films or reports from relevant studies not performed at Southern Regional.
Patient Instructions:
- Clear liquid diet for 24 hours prior to examination. This can include juice, popsicles, broth, etc.
- Pick up your Lo-So prep Bowel Cleansing system from the Radiology Department between the hours of 7:00 am and 10:30 pm. This prep takes 24 hours to complete so please pick up at least 2 days in advance. If you have any questions about your prep please contact us at (770) 991-8213.
- Please take regular medications
- Please follow any other specific instructions given to you by your doctor.
- Post Procedure: Drink plenty of fluids for 24 hours following this exam.
Procedure Information:
The Contrast or Barium Enema demonstrates your large bowel (colon). In some cases, the Radiologist may also introduce air along with the Barium solution. When this is done, it Is called a high density, double contrast, or air contrast barium enema.
