Procedure Information:
Total time for this exam is approximately 1 to 3 hours. You will begin by receiving a small cateheter inserted in your vein at which time a Nuclear Medicine Technologist will administer a small amount of Thallium intravenously. You should not feel any effects of the Thallium. After 10-20 minutes you will be asked to lie on a screening table where the resting images will be obtained. This scanning process lasts approximately 20 minutes. Once this is complete, you will be prepared to exercise (or stressted) on a treadmill or by a medication called Lexiscan by an EKG Tech. The decision to utilize the readmill or Lexiscan is up to the physician. During the stress portion once you have reached peak exercise you are given an injected medication called Myoview and will wait approximately 20-30 minutes. Myoview localizes in the heart when exercising and allows your heart to be imaged after exercising. After your wait, you will have your final set of images taken on the same screening table as your resting images. After this is complete, your catheter will be removed and your study is complete.
Additional Information:
Waiting Room for family is located in the Radiology Department. Please inform the technologist if you are pregnant prior to the scan. You will be asked a series of questions regarding your medical history.
