Procedure Name: Glucose Tolerance Test

Where to Report:
Enter the hospital at the Outpatient Entrance. Procede to the laboratory located on the first floor to register.

What to Bring:
- Physician Order
- Your insurance / Medicaid / Medicare card
- Driver's License / Photo Identification
- Any forms from your physician
- Please check with your insurance carrier for any authorization requirements.


Patient Instructions:
- Do not eat or drink (may drink water) after 8:00 p.m. the night before the test.
- Please arrive before 9:00 A.M. on day of test.
- Please read the Procedure Information for additional instructions and information.
- Please follow any other specific instructions given to you by your doctor.

Procedure Information:
This test is done to help your physician determine your body's ability to utilize the glucose you receive from your diet. A GTT or Glucose Tolerance Test may be ordered as a 3 hr., 4 hr, or 5 hr test. You will be given a high sugar cola or orange drink. At set intervals a blood sample and a urine sample will be collected. The test may last from 3 - 5 hours.


Additional Information:
You do not need to schedule the test, but it is necessary to start the Glucose Tolerance Test early in the morning in order to complete the test the same day. These tests are performed Monday through Friday.
