What to Bring for Delivery at Southern Regional 

Here's What to Pack and What to Leave Home

Being prepared for your hospital stay will help make you feel more at home. It's important to know what you should pack and what should be left at home. Here are some guidelines.

What to Bring For Mom

Most moms will pack a bag of items they will need after delivery. Please leave this bag in your car until you deliver. Most items needed during you stay in labor and delivery are furnished for you. Here are some suggestions of what to pack.

  • Nightgown or pajamas that button in front
  • Robe
  • Comfortable slippers and socks
  • Regular or nursing bra that fits well
  • Hairbrush/comb
  • Toiletries such as toothbrush/toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo/conditioner
  • Eye glasses and/or contact lenses with eye care solution
  • Hairdryer
  • Lip balm
  • Rubber bands/barrettes for long hair
  • Comfortable clothes to wear home
  • Reading material

What to Bring For Dad

  • Hospital pre-admittance forms/information and any insurance cards or papers
  • List of phone numbers of friends and family
  • Toothbrush/toiletries (if you plan to spend the night with mother)
  • Calling card to place long distance calls
  • Change of clothes

What to Bring For Baby

  • Going home outfit/outfit for pictures (the hospital does not provide you with blankets or a t-shirt for your baby to wear home)
  • Undershirt
  • Socks/booties
  • Receiving blanket
  • Outerwear/blanket (depending on weather)
  • Car seat for ride home (required by law). If your baby is born prematurely, a special car seat may be needed.

What Not to Bring

You are requested to not bring expensive items to the hospital with you. The hospital assumes no responsibility for items lost or stolen, so the following should not be brought into the hospital.

  • Jewelry
  • Cash or credit cards
  • Laptop computers
  • Expensive photography equipment
  • Cell phones
  • Expensive clothing
  • Expensive purses

If any of these items are brought to the hospital, you will be asked to give them to a family member or friend for safe keeping.

Photography

Cameras and video recorders are allowed in the labor and delivery room. However, recording and photographing of procedures, including the delivery of the newborn is not allowed. Still photos may be taken of the newborn when brought to mom.

In the Labor and Delivery Operating Room, only still cameras are allowed - no video cameras.

Southern Regional has a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with a board-certified neonatologist available in the hospital 24 hours-a-day.  We are the only hospital between Atlanta and Macon with this around-the-clock coverage.
