Southern Regional Medical Center has opened a 17-bed Intermediate Care
Unit (IMCU) to provide special medical and surgical care to seriously
ill patients who are a step-down from intensive care status. This new
unit supports the hospital’s 17-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and
is located adjacent to the ICU to ensure continuity of care for all patients.
“Southern Regional is committed to providing excellent, patient-centered
care that meets the needs of our community,” states Charlotte Dupré,
President and CEO of Southern Regional Medical Center. “As the hospital
continues to expand our services, this new unit allows us to provide high-quality,
24/7 care while meeting the needs of our patient population.”
The IMCU is staffed by a team of highly specialized physicians, registered
nurses, respiratory therapists and other clinicians with skills and training
that has been focused on providing this higher level of care. Collectively,
they monitor and provide comprehensive care for the patients and supportive
care for their families.
The IMCU is capable of accommodating a variety of patients including those
with high-risk interventional procedures, higher-level observation and
cardiac monitoring, surgical recoveries, and more.
