100th Robotic General Surgery Reached

09-19-2019

On Thursday, September 19, Southern Regional Medical Center’s OR celebrated the 100th general surgical robotic case performed at Southern Regional. The team has focused efforts on building the robotics program to ensure our patients have access to the most advanced techniques in minimally invasive surgery.

“This achievement has been a team effort and we are proud of everyone involved” states Nidhi Khanna, DO, General Surgeon and Chair of the Robotic Surgery Committee. “We look forward to continuing to build and provide great care for our patients, with the support of the hospital, fellow surgeons, and the OR team.”

Southern Regional offers robotic surgery for general surgery (such as hernias); and gynecological and urological surgeries.

Robotic-assisted surgery makes it possible to perform complex surgery using a minimally-invasive approach requiring only small incisions. The da Vinci® Surgical System provides unparalleled precision, dexterity and control for the performance of minimally invasive surgery. What this means is that patients can look forward to shorter hospital stays, less pain, faster recovery, lower risk for complications and infections, and reduced scarring.
