Southern Regional adds New Medical Stabilization Unit

Southern Regional Medical Center is now offering medical stabilization services to help people overcome withdrawal symptoms from drug and alcohol addictions through the New Vision™ medical stabilization unit. The new 6-bed unit officially opens on April 17.

“We understand the daily struggle of patients with addiction. That’s why we have partnered with New Vision to offer a program designed to provide the medical support needed to begin recovery,” states Charlotte W. Dupré, President and CEO of Southern Regional Medical Center. “Our goal is to be the first step in our patients journey to achieving wellness and leading healthy, productive lives.”

The New Vision™ service serves adults with a medically supervised hospital stay for inpatient stabilization, which typically lasts three days. The inpatient stay includes prescreening, assessment, admission, medical stabilization, and discharge planning. Upon admission, an assessment will be completed with an evaluation of the patient’s medical history, a physical, a laboratory workup and nursing assessment.

Discharge planning begins upon admission to ensure patients are referred to an appropriate community-based treatment program to continue their treatment, and provide the guidance and support need to prevent relapse.

Patients are handled with the utmost confidentiality. All patients can only be admitted by a licensed physician and will be admitted five days a week.

New Vision™, a hospital-based medical stabilization and withdrawal management service, is provided through a partnership with SpecialCare Hospital Management Corporation, St. Charles, MO, and is currently offered in many hospitals across the U.S. SpecialCare has been providing inpatient medical stabilization in collaboration with short-term acute care hospitals for over 25 years.
